Who's Ron? Ron Dennis?

I assume so - but was this intentional, or did someone hack the virtual ads?

Wait, virtual ads? It's not actually written on the track?

It was there at the beginning, too.

I internetted for a few minutes and found this.

7:33 – Thanks to our journalistic coordinator Simone Valtieri, we have discovered the mysterious Ron from the Ecclestone message. Not a friend who has passed, as we had imagined, but Ron Walker, president of the Australian Grand Prix organizational committee. Just as we thought: simply eery!

Yeah, f1 superimposes a lot of adds onto the track.

No-one hacked the ad. Bernie's posted messages in these superimposed track graphics before. This was last year's Austrian GP:

UGH SPOILERS! I wasn't planning on watching the race until next weekend. HOW DARE YOU POST ANYTHING about the race until I watch it.

I saw that and was super confused. I was surprised NBC didn't mention anything about it.

Yep. most of F1's virtual ads are on physical signs or run-off areas rather than the track itself, but they've put these Bernie messages on-track before.

AFAIK, the technology is the same or similar to other sports coverage, like the virtual first-down line on NFL broadcasts or virtual billboards in baseball, soccer, hockey, etc.

Saw it but had no idea what it meant. Now I know.

Yeah, me too. They were busy talking about Saenz at the time, so they may have been watching him and not the main feed shot.

I was waiting for the guys in Sky F1 to say something, but there was no explanation. I though "well, that's romantic" and then "wait, did someone die?"
